Terry Van Poland

MILLEDGEVILLE — Terry Van Poland, 54, passed away at his lakeside home on June the 6th after his battle with cancer. A private service will be held at a later date.

Born on the 4th of July, the son of Watson and Pearla Poland, Poland grew up in Macon. He graduated from UGA summa cum laude with a degree in criminal justice. He had been a senior executive with Macy's and was currently a sales representative with SimplexGrinnell.

Poland had been a gentleman farmer and an occasional pirate on Lake Sinclair. He was the organizer of The Bovine Classic golf tournament held in Madison, a member of the Milledgeville Country Club Men's Golf Association and a founding member of The Island Creek Ski Club.

He taught his children to embrace life, its ups and downs and to live it to the fullest. He was a loyal UGA football fan, an avid fisherman and golfer.

Poland is survived by his wife, Melissa Hood Poland; his daughter, Amanda Mortimore (William) of Nashville; his son, Schiller Poland of Nashville; and his brother, Kenneth Poland (Janet) of Marietta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to The Georgia PGA Foundation, The American Cancer Society or The UGA Foundation.
