Samuel Edward Brown Sr. obit

MILLEDGEVILLE — A graveside service for Mr. Samuel Edward Brown Sr. will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, from Memory Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Brown of Wilmington, Del., passed away on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, in Chistiana Hospital.

He was born in Milledgeville and was a World War II veteran, earned his degrees from North Carolina A&T State University and Clark- Atlanta University and completed further graduate study at Ohio State University.

Mr. Brown began his teaching career at George Washington Carver Elementary in Milledgeville. His teaching career extended to Southern University, Tuskegee University, Howard High School and the James H. Groves Adult Education High School in Wilmington, Del.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Holsey and Frances Harper Brown; brothers, Jerome and Holsey; and sisters, Trudie Mae, Julia Brown Wilborn, Francina Brown Dougan and Walton Brown Freeman.

He is survived by his wife, Atlanta Thomas Brown of Wilmington, Del.; daughter, Walton L. Brown Foster (Benjamin); sons, Mr. Dale Thomas Brown and Mr. Samuel Edward Brown Jr.; and one grandson, S. Samuel Foster; nieces, Frances Dougan Echols and Shirley Dougan King; wife of a previous marriage, Orchid Lyons Brown; and a host of other relatives.
