Lilly Louise Miller Briley obit

MILLEDGEVILLE — Lilly Louise Miller Briley enjoyed her first cup of coffee in heaven Thursday morning, Oct. 10, 2013.

She promptly instructed St. Peter in its proper preparation going forward. Once she was certain he understood, she rejoined family awaiting her: father, Manual Miller; mother, Hattie Dubose Miller; sisters, Eva Miller Smallwood and Cleo Miller Dover; brothers, Don Miller and Terrell "Brother" Miller.

Her family and friends will celebrate her life on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Haddock Baptist Church in Haddock where she was a life-time member.

Family will gather at the church at 1 p.m. for visiting and storytelling and gardening tips, followed by the service at 2 p.m.

Mrs. Briley was a life-long resident of Jones County, disregarding a youthful exuberance that took her to the big city of Macon and the wartime USO, where she met her dear friends Edna and Jack Bell.

She traveled as far afield as South Carolina and Delaware, before love of family brought her home again. She attended Haddock Elementary and graduated from Jones County High School in 1941.

She is survived by her immediate family: sons, Joseph Briley Jr. and Jason Briley; daughter, Brandyn Briley; daughters-in-law, Patrice Briley and Debbie Briley; grandchildren, Trip and Cady Sandifer; Jason, James and Jessica Briley; and Megan and Joseph Briley; great-grandchildren, Finnian Sandifer and Payce Benjamin Neville; sisters, Evie Miller Martin and Fleta Miller McCarty; brother, Roy W. Miller; her extended family, nearly everyone in Jones County; and her extraordinary and loving caregivers: Joan Davis, Lisa Horton and Melody Kennedy; and dozens of nieces and nephews.

In addition she is survived by flower gardens all over Gray, notably, the public gardens in front of the government center and the private gardens of her many friends with whom she shared bulbs and her love of flowers over the years. Her favorite, naturally, is the Lilly.
