Maj. Joseph R. Baugh (Ret.), age 93, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jay Hodges officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery.
Maj. Baugh was a native and resident of Baldwin County. He graduated from Georgia Military College High School and the University of Georgia. He served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. He served in the 77th Special Forces Airborne Unit at Fort Bragg, N.C., and was an ROTC instructor at Lanier High School, now Central High School, until his retirement in 1963. Upon returning to Milledgeville he taught for 17 years in the public school system and at Gordon-Ivey. His hobbies included gardening and painting early life pictures of his childhood. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Baugh of Milledgeville; daughter, Mary Francis Stewart (Jeff) of Gray; two brothers, Dr. James Baugh (Beegee) and Dr. Wilbur Baugh, both of Milledgeville; three grandchildren, Whitney, Ryan and Macy.
