Pre-k programs get $1.7M infusion from stimulus

ATLANTA

Pre-kindergarten classrooms across the state are getting $1.7 million in federal stimulus money.

Nearly 4,000 classrooms that have been part of Georgia's pre-k program for more than a decade can use the funding to buy new equipment. The money also includes $400 for new materials for newer pre-k classes.

Holly A. Robinson, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning, says the money will replace outdated supplies for the 82,000 children in the state's pre-k program.

Georgia has one of the largest pre-k programs in the country, offering free early learning classes to every 4-year-old in the state by using revenue from the lottery.
