You take off the tinsel, ornaments and lights and get the man of the house to haul the slightly shedding Christmas tree from your living room.

But now what do you do with it?

Most citizens do not think twice about dumping their once-decorated tree on the side of the road or beside a trash site.

But if everyone just tossed aside the holiday tree, they would accumulate and become a problem: tons of solid waste, said Marion Nelson, Baldwin County public works environmental

officer.

State law prohibits depositing Christmas trees in landfills because these methods of disposal are troublesome to the

environment.

“Bring One for the Chipper” is the best alternative. The a state-sponsored Christmas tree recycling service operates year round.
