Ross a future star

MILLEDGEVILLE — The numbers speak loudly for David Ross Jr.

The former standout Baldwin Bulldogs 11- and 12-year-old travel team member was selected for the Future Stars Game June 20. Ross will travel to Bradenton, Fla. representing Team Georgia against Team Florida.

Bulldogs head coach Darrell Ingram is helping the 13-year-old train for the trip.

Along with other up and coming players, Ross worked on conditioning, fundamental and agility drills this week.

Ingram feels blessed to coach a special player.

“It's an honor for me to have a player to represent in a big environment like he's about to play in,” Ingram said.

Ross just picked up football two years ago.

“For a person that had never played football to succeed like that is a great honor,” the coach said.

The youngster's stats were impressive during the Bulldogs run last fall. The team narrowly lost to the Welcome All Panthers in the Georgia Dome to end the season.

Ross had 70 tackles, two blocked punts (one returned for a touchdown), 15 sacks and two fumble recoveries.

Ingram thanks Rance Williams and Jessie Washington for providing the opportunity to coach Ross and other developing gridiron studs.

Michael Wagner and Cedric Davis sponsored Ross, assisting with the upcoming Florida travel.

“That really helped out the kid a lot,” Ingram said.
