Bulldogs prep for final home game

MILLEDGEVILLE — Boasting an 8-0 record thus far in the season, Georgia Military College will take the field for the last time during this historic season at home on tonight against Georgia Prep Sports Academy.

Following a cancellation by Virginia Beach Institute last weekend, the Bulldogs will take on the Academy as a replacement this week for the team’s first game at night this season.

“We got an early look at them last week,” Bert Williams, head coach, said. “The guys are excited and looking forward to playing at home.”

With GMC continuing to lead the nation in the National Junior College Athletic Association rankings, this week’s contest was a crucial one for the Bulldogs.

“You don’t want to be inactive to the voters,” Williams said.

GPSA is a first-year post-grad program for players looking to take their game to the next level, meaning they will field a talented group against the undefeated GMC squad.

“They have pretty good team speed,” Williams said. “I’m sure they’ll come in here ready to play and make a statement.”

From the experienced head coach’s perspective, the Lions pose as an opportunity for the Bulldogs to stay in sync with coaching staff’s play calling and stay sharp as they approach the final three match-ups of the regular season this fall.

The Bulldogs will be looking to national leading rusher and scorer, Jovon Robinson, to continue posting big numbers, as the star back has averaged 184.1 yards a game this season.

Pat Thomas, quarterback, has had impressive numbers in the last three contests for GMC, and will shoot to continue his string of outstanding performances against the Lions on Thursday night.

Defensively, the Bulldogs have relied heavily on the expertise of St. Pierre Anilus, Ky Tyler, Donte Beckham and LeGrande Harley in the secondary, as well as Davonte Lambert and Kenderius Whitehead on the defensive line.
