Bulldogs tackle top-ranked Snow

MILLEDGEVILLE — Starting the season off 2-0, Georgia Military College picked up a big victory over second-ranked Snow College on the road in Ephraim, Utah on Saturday, Aug. 31, overtaking the Badgers 35-17.

Beating two tough opponents early in the season, the Bulldogs are showing their ability to do what it takes to earn wins this season.

“We’re off to a good start,” Bert Williams, head coach, said. “We did what it took to get wins.”

Though, the Bulldogs missed opportunities early in the game against Snow, Williams admits, “I really wasn’t too concerned. We felt like we could move the ball on them if we executed.”

While Snow racked up 514 yards on offense, Williams believes the Bulldogs had all the answers on defense for the top-ranked team on Saturday.

“We felt like defensively, we had found the answer to keeping them out of the end zone,” he said. “We were bending, but not breaking.”

LeGrande Harley and St. Pierre Anilus led the attack for the Bulldogs, with Harley carrying the team with 10 tackles and Anilus finishing with 7 on the day.

Playing well up front against the Badgers, Kenderius Whitehead disrupted Snow’s backfield with 5 tackles, 3 for loss, 2 sacks and a forced fumble in the contest, while Stephen Houston, Chris Duffy and Qunitavious Knight all snagged an interception each.

Outside of Harley and Anilus, GMC also had strong play from local defensive players in Taylor Payne and Donte Beckham on Saturday, as Payne’s performance amounted to 5 tackles and Beckham earned 3 on the day.

“Some of the other guys that we’ve been getting good production form outside of those guys [Harley and Anilus] are our local guys,” Williams said. “They combined for a total 8 tackles against Snow and 11 against Blinn [College] with a tackle for a loss. We’ve been truly having some success on the defensive side with the local guys.”
