Finding a way to win Friday night, Oct. 12, is a must for Georgia Military College Prep School, and that is what the Bulldogs intend to do against Warren County at home in order to keep a possible post-season birth alive.
Sitting at 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the region, GMC Prep expects to match up well with the Screaming Devils this week.
“When you look at it from an apples-to-apples standpoint and you look at the film, we just feel like we match up well with them,” Brad Owens, head coach, said. “We just feel like they’re a team we’re going to have an opportunity to beat.”
According to Owens, the Bulldogs must win three out of the last five region games to be considered for a possible playoff bid.
“This is definitely one of those games we need to win to have a chance at the playoffs,” he said.
Heading into Friday’s contest, Owens admits the Bulldogs will be playing very thin against Warren Co., as many of the team’s playmakers are injured.
Colby Lawrence and Delarrion Milner are two key players for GMC Prep that will be sidelined Friday night.
“We just got a lot of guys banged up,” Owens said. “I’d say we got about 10 guys who are injured but who are playing.”
Not only have the Bulldogs had to deal with injuries this week, but the team has also suffered from being out of school on Monday and Tuesday of this week.
“We’ve actually been out of school today and yesterday, and I don’t like that because you always have guys that are missing,” Owens said. “It’s been a trying two days because of that. Hopefully we can get on track tomorrow and Thursday and have a good game on Friday.”
GMC Prep will celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month this week with Friday’s contest dubbed a Pink Out for Bulldog fans, which Owens hopes will motivate his players against the Screaming Devils.
“We’re going to be having our pink out for the American Cancer Society, hopefully have a big crowd,” he said. “You never know what’s going to get these kids motivated, so maybe this will get them motivated on Friday night.”
This week’s game between GMC Prep and Warren Co. will be contested at home at Davenport Field, with the kick off beginning at 7:30 p.m.
