The Georgia College men’s basketball program and head coach Terry Sellers announced the signing of Jeremy Newsome Monday.
Newsome, a 6-foot-3 wing, comes to Georgia College from Faulkner State Community College (Bay Minette, Ala.). He is originally from Gulfport, Miss.
“Jeremy is exactly the type of wing we were looking for,” said Sellers. “He is big, strong and capable of guarding the bigger perimeter players in our league. We expect Jeremy to come in and have an impact immediately.”
Newsome averaged 11.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game for the Sun Chiefs. His season high was against Shelton State where he scored 25 points hitting 4-of-9 from the three-point line.
Faulkner State, under Head Coach Jack Robertson went 22-6 overall and 11-3 in conference play this past season.
The Bobcats battled through the 2012-13 season, a 9-17 year with a 5-14 conference mark. Senior forward Scott Ferguson earned a slot on the All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Third Team. Georgia College finished the season third in the PBC in fewest turnovers per game (11.3) and second in defending the three-point shot (.306).
