Baldwin Bulldogs playing at Georgia Dome

MILLEDGEVILLE — The 11- and 12-year-old Baldwin Bulldogs Travel Team will play in a big time NFL venue Saturday.

The talented youngsters are playing at the Georgia Dome with kickoff set for 6:30 p.m.

Head coach Darrell Ingram wants all family and friends to support the Bulldogs during this special moment. The local team plays the No. 1 team in the state and Frank Ski Bowl champion Welcome All Panthers.

The Frank Ski Bowl is the largest youth football event in Atlanta each year.

“We are amped up. All the coaches and parents are excited,” Ingram said. “The kids are looking forward to the challenge.”

One of the Baldwin Bulldogs defensive linemen, David Ross, Jr., is a top-four candidate for Defensive Player of the Year award through Born to Compete, which ranks players on a state and national level.

The coaches didn’t hear the good news until Tuesday night. Some last minute practices will have the 11 and 12-year-old boys ready for action.

Though Ingram said the Panthers aren’t the No. 1 seed for nothing, he expects a tight contest.

“I told our kids we are going to fight for all four quarters,” the coach said.

“The most important thing for our kids is they have to get more physical.”

The Bulldogs won the Turkey Bowl and carry a 16-2 overall record into the Georgia Dome. At one point this season, the Bulldogs averaged close to 30 points per game with no points allowed on the defensive side.

They compete in the Georgia Youth Football Conference that has been in existence since 1961.

A powerhouse in youth football, GYFC has been instrumental in preparing youth athletes for high school sports, as well as many football and career professionals for the adult world that they face after high school.
