Former Brave signs letter of intent with BPC

MILLEDGEVILLE — Former team captain for the Baldwin High Braves baseball team, Tylan Eunice, signed a Letter of Intent Thursday at the Baldwin County Recreation Department to compete for the Brewton-Parker College Barons in Mount Vernon next spring.

As a senior, Eunice averaged .422 at the plate with 19 RBI and five doubles, while throwing out 11 base runners as the team’s starting catcher.

“It’s been an awesome four years. The biggest thing about what Tylan has been his commitment to the program,” Donnie Coburn, BHS head coach, said. “Like I’ve said before, he came up with a good group of kids, and when we moved him to catcher I felt like his attitude is what made him what he is today.”

Coburn believes it is Eunice’s drive behind the plate that has allowed him the opportunity to play for the Barons, a southeastern powerhouse in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

“Most people don’t like to catch, but he took it on and I think his hard work, his discipline and his commitment to the game and to the program is the reason he’s getting a shot to do what he’s doing now and everything,” Coburn said. “It’s one of the better baseball schools, but it’s a program that asks you to be a little bit more than a baseball player. I think his demeanor is the reason that he’s going to fit just right there.”

For the Braves most valuable player this past spring, playing baseball in college has always been a dream, but did not become real until last summer.

“The college thing is something I’ve wanted to do all my life, but I started last summer trying to find somewhere to go,” Eunice said. “Brewton-Parker, I emailed them and they responded the next day and told me to come down—I was down there the next week. We talked and I visited, then they told me I could come down there and play.”
