Prep school confident after big win

MILLEDGEVILLE — Georgia Military Prep School pulled off a much-needed win last week over Warren County just in time to gain confidence going into one of the team’s biggest matchups all season.

The Bulldogs take Lincoln County Friday night at home.

Trailing with minutes to go in the game last week, the Bulldogs found a renewed confidence to pull out the 21-8 win over the Screaming Devils, a self-belief that has carried over to game preparation for Friday night.

“I think our guys are a little more confident this week,” Steven Simpson, head coach, said. “To be honest with you, we were down 8-3 with seven minutes in the game, and I think that kind of lit a fire under some of our guys and we went on to score three times in the last seven minutes. I think winning that battle gave some of our guy’s confidence.”

Simpson also added that Aquinas took down the Red Devils last week for the first time, giving the Bulldogs more assurance that Lincoln County can be beaten.

“Also, on a different note, Aquinas has never beaten Lincoln, but they did pretty handily on Friday night,” he said. “I think that gave our guys some confidence as well.”

The road to victory for GMC Prep does not look easy on Friday night, with Lincoln’s big offensive and defensive lines providing control up front, but not impossible.

“Lincoln County is big and physical on the offensive and defensive line. I think they’re going to be a little bigger than we are,” Simpson said. “It’s going to come down to making tackles and taking care of our responsibilities.”

Similarly, Simpson expects a big night from the Bulldogs’ line on both sides of the ball to give the team the edge against the Red Devils.
