BHS track athlete signs with Albany State

MILLEDGEVILLE — Paving the way for other future Bravettes, Baldwin High track athlete Jalleyah Jordan signed a scholarship Wednesday to run for Albany State University next year.

Following a senior season that saw Jordan finish fourth place overall in the region and 15th place in the 400 meter dash, the prep star may be the catalyst to get other track athletes to the next level in the future.

“This is a plus for us, regardless of how it works out,” Anderson Bentley Jr., BHS head track coach, said. “Anytime you get a kid to move on to the next level, it’s a signal to the other kids that they can do it.”

As a satisfactory student at BHS, Jordan said she believes she will be ahead of the game having been a student-athlete in high school.

“Since I keep good grades in school, and I still managed to run, I think that’s a big heads up,” she said. “I’m going to know how to balance my grades and run.”

According to, Jordan currently boasts personal bests of 1:01.46 for 400 meters and 16 feet 9.5 inches in the long jump.

As a freshman for the Lady Golden Rams, Jordan hopes to represent BHS well, as she plans to establish herself as one of the best athletes at ASU.

“I want to make it to the SIAC championships my freshman year in either long jump or one of my individual races, but if I make it in a relay it’s fine,” she said. “I want to ‘PR’ [personal record] and get better over the summer, that way when I go into college I’ll be one of the top athletes.”
