Baldwin All-Stars fall to Virginia at World Series

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Baldwin All-Stars’ season ended Monday evening with a 2-1 loss to the Virginia All-Stars in the Dixie Youth Softball World Series in Petal, Miss.

The loss was the second for the Baldwin team, representing Georgia as state champions, in the double elimination tournament.

The team started the series strong Saturday morning by defeating the Florida representatives 7-0. The local team kept its winning streak alive by defeating the Arkansas All-Stars 8-3 Sunday morning. In the team’s second game of the day, Baldwin was defeated 11-1 by South Carolina.

The Baldwin team traveled to Mississippi and competed in the Angeles Traditional Division of the Dixie Youth World Series.

The team earned a spot to represent Georgia after winning the state tournament held earlier this month in Milledgeville at Walter B. Williams Park. Representing the county well, the girls outscored their opponents 59-9 to win the tournament handily during the state tournament. They defeated Jones County 4-0 in the state championship game with Sutton Eady pitching a complete game shutout in the victory.

Opening ceremonies for the World Series were held Friday evening. Thirteen states are represented in this year’s Dixie Youth Softball World Series. The tournament concludes following the championship game on Wednesday. Head coach for the Baldwin team is Josh Eady and assistants are Jason Latimer and Werner Bandows.
