GC junior outfielder named to NFCA All-Region team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Slugger National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region team was recently announced and Georgia College junior outfielder Whitney Okvist (Kennesaw) was named to the second team in the Southeast Region. Okvist becomes just the second two-time NFCA All-Region outfielder for the Bobcats.

Okvist finished her junior campaign with a .296 batting average and led the team with 39 runs scored. She was 43-for-45 in stolen base attempts, giving her 119 for her career. Already holding the record for most stolen bases in school history, she is just 25 short of the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) record of 144, held by Danielle Peters of UNC Pembroke.

Of the 25 spots on All-Region First and Second Teams, 18 spots were awarded to a representative of the PBC, including PBC Pitcher of the Year Mollie Russell and Player of the Year Alexis Mercer.

The Bobcats have had 23 players selected to the NFCA All-Region all-time, including three during current head coach Jamie Grodecki’s tenure.

Okvist and the Bobcats finished their season with 37 wins, the fourth most in school history. They also advanced to the NCAA Regional Tournament for the first time since the 2009 season.
