Lady Rebels advance in state tournament

The John Hancock Academy girls’ basketball team is one step closer to a state championship.
The Lady Rebels, who won their second consecutive region title last week, defeated Westwood 44-30 to move on to the second round of the GISA State Playoffs.
John Hancock took an early lead in the came, holding a 22-10 at the half, and outscored Westwood 21-20 in the last two periods to clinch the victory.
Tabby Gay and Katy Reagin led the Lady Rebels with 12 points apiece, Kiersten Pinnell added 11 and Virginia Reddick shot for nine in the winning effort.
The JHA girls’ basketball team now moves on to play David Emmanuel in Swainsboro on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. The JHA boys’ basketball team plays tonight against Crisp in Albany.
