Spaghetti dinner fundraiser Thursday

MILLEDGEVILLE — What could be better than filling one’s stomachs with the goodness of a spaghetti meal while showing support for a local organization? The 24th annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Baldwin and Jones County will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Crockett's Cafeteria. 

The Boys & Girls Clubs help kids reach their full potential by providing them with the emotional and material resources needed to help them grow. 

"We're open year-round and we are a home away from home for kids," said Executive Director Paul Bernard. 

Besides Crockett's Cafeteria, other sponsors for the upcoming fundraiser include Piggly Wiggly, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Golden Corral and Captain D's. 

The success of the spaghetti dinner fundraiser continues to grow.  

"Last year we ran out, but that was only after serving 630 plates," said Bernard. "We're anticipating preparing 700 plates this year."  

Due to the popularity of the fundraiser, participation numbers and preparation efforts also grow each year.

"People come from other counties like Wilkinson and Jones," said Bernard. "Word of mouth about the fundraiser has really spread."  

This year alone organizers and volunteers are preparing 330 pounds of ground meat and 80 pounds of noodles. The dinner will also include cole slaw from Captain D's, a quarter of a slice of a peach, an oatmeal pie, bread and drink of choice. 

"It's a win-win situation. You're getting good food and you're supporting a good cause," said Bernard. 

Tickets are $6 at the dinner and $5 in advance. All proceeds go to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Baldwin and Jones County. For more information call Bernard at (478) 456-5602.
