MILLEDGEVILLE — The seventh annual Big Click photography competition and exhibition will open for the public to browse through 42 unique images at the John Marlor Arts Center this weekend.

“This year we had 16 artists in the Big Click exhibition. We had a lot of black and white entries, which is [unique] because most people with digital cameras use color,” said Brian Renko, program coordinator at Allied Arts. “We had a lot of artists using Photoshop to their work.”

First place honors went to “Solitary Trees on a Winter Day” by Stephen Owens; second place to “Dawn of a New Day” by Genie Hargrove; and third place to “Woodland Embrace” by Cathy Dyer. Cash awards will be given, including $100 for first place, $75 for second place and $50 for third place.

“The winning photograph is a black and white photograph of two trees on a winters day,” Renko said. “There’s a lot of lines and it creates some nice shapes.”

Honorable mentions went to “Galaxy of Reflection” by Gerry Pasierb, “Swirling Water” by Marti Huston, “Under the Boardwalk” by Nikki Van Horn and “Serendipity” by Bill Kennedy.

The entries were judged by Roger Jamison, a retired professor of art from Mercer University and accomplished potter.

As part of Milledgeville Allied Arts’ Holiday Open House, visitors can stop by from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Marlor House to browse the collection of all entries and enjoy holiday refreshments and decor. The award presentation is slated for 2 p.m. The photographs will be on display through Friday, Jan. 3

For more information about the photographs or the upcoming reception call Allied Arts at 478-452-3950, or visit www.milledgevillealliedarts.com.
