MILLEDGEVILLE — The Flournoy brothers, Faris, Caleb and Joshua, are in the midst of finalizing renovations at their new facility which will soon provide disabled senior citizens and children a home away from home.
“We thought about the need for seniors in our community and if there was a center available as a place where people can drop off their loved ones, whether a senior or child, during the day, but we don’t have anything like that in Milledgeville,” Caleb said. “The closest is the Baldwin County Senior Center, but they’re mainly open for shorter hours during the day. We know so many people in the community that could benefit from this type of service, so we decided to open up an adult daycare open to the entire community.”
The building formerly housing Baldwin Trophies & Awards across from the Rocket Roller Rink will become the haven of Heritage Oaks Adult Daycare, offering meals, social activities, field trips, a wheelchair-accessible bathroom with shower, beds and a designated room for Alzheimer's.
The Flournoy’s purchased the facility in November 2012 and plan to complete final renovations next week with a goal to open in early March.
Around 12 to 17 part-time staff members are needed to help run the center and aid in the daily care of seniors.
“We will be taking applications for staff until late January and early February and set up interviews in late January,” Caleb said. “We are also looking for some good volunteers, whether nurses or just citizens in community who want to help.”
Located at 2932 Heritage Place, Heritage Oaks will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
