Sparta fatal shooting investigation continues

SPARTA —  

Authorities are seeking more information that will direct them to the shooter who took the life of a man in Hancock County. 

Sixty-year-old Nelson Garner was murdered Sunday night. His body was discovered in his deer processing business, Garner’s Grinder, located on Highway 16 East in Sparta. 

According to a press release issued Tuesday by the GBI, Garner’s body was found by a relative inside the business. 

Garner, who stayed in Hancock County and operated the business during hunting season, but was a resident of Cumming, was last seen alive at 4 p.m. Sunday, according to the press release. Garner's wife made an attempt to reach him, but was unsuccessful. 

Agents from the GBI's Milledgeville Office are assisting in the investigation at the request of Hancock County Sheriff Tomlyn Primus. The case is being investigated as a homicide. 

An autopsy was conducted Monday at the GBI Medical Examiner's Office.
