MILLEDGEVILLE — To help raise awareness of the early literacy crisis and promote early childhood education, community volunteers contributed their time to read to students at Eagle Ridge Elementary School, Midway Elementary School and the Early Learning Center (ELC) Thursday as part of the Jumpstart’s Read for the Record campaign.

Communities across the country read ‘Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad’ by David Soman and Jacky Davis.

Local volunteers included representatives from the Civitan Club Service Project, Mary Vinson Memorial Library, The Union-Recorder, Georgia Power, Century Bank and Trust, State Farm Insurance, Georgia College students and more. State Rep. Rusty Kidd also read to Pre-K youth at the ELC while Mayor Richard Bentley spent time at Midway.
