MILLEDGEVILLE — After three years of operating the Childre Chevrolet Buick GMC Truck dealership in Milledgeville, Bob Childre and his brother Jimmy, Jr. are ready to expand their services and business offerings at their new larger location within the next seven months.

“We’re waiting for grading to get started. The building will start to be erected within the next six weeks,” Bob said. “We plan to be in the new location by the end of March next year, and we should operate by the first of April.”

The Childre brothers have leased the space at their current location at 1980 N. Columbia St. since November 2010.

“My father opened General Motors in Sandersville in 1964 and then he came to Milledgeville in 1980, so I have been operating the store since 1980. Then we moved the General Motors store from Sandersville to Milledgeville in November 2010,” Bob said. “When we opened in Milledgeville, we knew we were going to build a facility on a piece of property of our own in the future.”

The local dealership currently operates on 4 acres of land. Sitting at 2710 N. Columbia St., the new property is 9 acres and will consist of a 25,000 square foot building.

“We’re going to be halfway between Walmart and Kroger. We’re very excited about moving because the building we’re in now was built in 1970. The new store will have stock with a much more volume of vehicles and the latest upgrades in technology,” Bob said. “We’re going to be more advanced than any dealership because of our new updates. We will have a new system called Service Workbench where you can bring your car in for service, [staff] will walk up to your car with their iPads and they can look up the history of the car, any updates needed to the car, or if there are any recalls on the vehicle. We also have a machine that can check your front-end alignment within five minutes at no charge.”

To help ease traffic along the busy Highway 441 corridor, a turning lane will be placed for easy access to the business.

“People complain about our traffic where we are now, and how hard it is to get in and out,” Bob said. “We’re putting in a turning lane at the new store to help the flow of getting in and out of there.”

The car dealership offers a free front-end alignment check on any vehicle. All 2013 Buicks are being sold this month at factory invoice minus factory incentive and all Buicks qualify for zero financing.

“We have new model cars this year with GM that we’re very excited about, including the new Chevy Impala ...  the new style Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra Pickup truck,” Bob said. “We appreciate customer business and please come join us at the new location.”
