FUMC hosts Public Safety Breakfast

MILLEDGEVILLE — The third annual Public Safety Breakfast, hosted by the Men's Club of Milledgeville's First United Methodist Church, is scheduled Saturday from 7 to 9:30 a.m. The breakfast will be held at the Baldwin County Fire Department on Allen Memorial Drive.

This breakfast is no ordinary affair. It is an event that is designed to honor all public safety personnel who risk their lives to save the lives of residents within the community on a daily basis.

"All public safety workers are invited, whether full-time personnel or volunteers," said Dwayne Morgan, president of the Men's Club. Morgan, who has devoted 19 years of his life to being a volunteer firefighter and EMT, got the idea for the breakfast three years ago during a meeting at church.

"I brought the idea up during our men's group meeting and everyone seemed to really like the sound of it, so we immediately started working to make it happen," he said. According to Morgan, attendance during the first year of the breakfast was very slim, but by the second annual Public Safety breakfast, the event attracted more attendees.

"We didn't see many people come out during that first year, but the next year we picked up more people, so I'm sure we'll have an even bigger turn out for this year's breakfast," he said.

All personnel in fire rescue, EMS, the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, the Milledgeville Police Department, 911 dispatchers, correction officers and any other public safety officer in Baldwin and surrounding counties are invited to take part in the breakfast.

"It's our way of showing our appreciation for all that they do," said Morgan.
