Max Noah Singers bring ‘Empire State Evening’ to Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE — The sounds of the Big Apple can be heard in Milledgeville as the Max Noah Singers present their fall concert.

The “Empire State Evening” performance will take place Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Magnolia Ballroom.

It features pieces that embody the essence of New York City including “New York, New York” by John Kander and Fred Erb, "So In Love" from “Kiss Me, Kate” by Cole Porter and “New York State of Mind” by Billy Joel, arr. by Mark Brymer.

“We called it ‘Empire State Evening’ because the Max Noah Singers will be traveling to New York in March 2014” said Dr. Jenifer Flory, director of choral activities and associate professor of music. “This concert features solos, duets and small ensembles that are from the musical theatre or popular music genres. It has a more relaxed atmosphere and gives students the chance to be in the spotlight.”

Cannon McClain and his brother, James, wrote the piece “Narrative on 54th and Madison.” Cannon is a sophomore music education major and a member of the Max Noah Singers. The lyrics for the piece were written by creative writing major Bri Neves.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $7 for Georgia College faculty, staff and seniors. Students receive free admission.

All proceeds benefit music scholarships.
