Photographers welcome to enter ‘The Big Click’ contest

MILLEDGEVILLE — Area photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to enter Milledgeville Allied Arts’ seventh annual “The Big Click” photography competition and exhibition for a chance to win prizes and display their unique work for art enthusiasts to enjoy.

“We often hear that photographers enjoy seeing what other photographers are doing; it fertilizes their imagination,” said Randy Cannon, executive director of Allied Arts. “Milledgeville is such a beautiful historic city that there are opportunities everywhere to photograph, from the Georgia College campus, Memory Hill Cemetery, Lake Sinclair and a wealth of things that look good on photographic paper.”

Allied Arts is accepting entries for the contest Tuesday, Nov. 12 through Friday, Nov. 15. Photographs and entry forms should be delivered to the Marlor House at 201 N. Wayne St. between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

“The Big Click” is open to adults above age 18 from the middle Georgia area. Photographers can submit three entries with identification labels attached to the back of each entry. Film, digital and digitally enhanced images will be accepted.

The registration fee is $15 for members of the Friends of Allied Arts and $18 for non-members.

“We ask people to think about the presentation in terms of how their work is framed and matted,” Cannon said. “A nice plain black frame with a white matte is great because it really shows off the art work as opposed to seeing the frame.”

As part of the Holiday Open House reception from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, the Marlor House will open its doors to passersby to browse the collection of one-of-a-kind images before the winners are announced. The photographs will be on display through Friday, Jan. 3.

The photographs will be judged by Roger Jamison, a retired professor of art from Mercer University and accomplished potter. Cash awards will be given, including $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place during the reception.
