It’s time to “Stuff the Truck”

MILLEDGEVILLE — Students in Baldwin High School, Georgia Military College Prep School and John Milledge Academy are encouraged to participate in the fifth annual Stuff the Truck food drive to help fill shelves at local food pantries and feed those less fortunate.

“This is a wonderful way to help our neighbors as we approach both the holidays and cooler weather since there are not as many gardens still functioning,” said Judith Keim, executive director of the Oconee Prevention Resource Council (OPRC).

Schools will begin collecting nonperishable items Monday. The last day to drop off donations is Friday, Nov. 8.

Items that are being collected include pancake mix, flour, syrup, sugar, canned fruit, juice, instant potatoes, saltine crackers, canned milk, dry milk, cooking oil, canned meats, spaghetti sauce, ketchup, grits, canned vegetables, ravioli, canned spaghetti, canned soup, spaghetti noodles, peanut butter, jelly, dry cereal, macaroni and cheese, Ramen noodles, beans, rice, oatmeal and broth.

Sponsors for this year’s food drive are Baldwin County public school system, GMC, JMA, OPRC, Salvation Army, Georgia College’s GIVE Center,  Life Enrichment Center, Baldwin County Family Connection, Communities In Schools of Milledgeville-Baldwin County and Kroger.

“We all know it’s been a tough year for many of our friends, families and neighbors,” Keim said, “so in the tradition this great nation of ours has adopted and embraced since its inception, we’ll reach out and help someone.”
