Georgia Power cleaning up Lake Sinclair

MILLEDGEVILLE — As part of the statewide Renew Our Rivers campaign, Georgia Power is holding a Lake Sinclair clean up day from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Georgia Power and community volunteers will meet at the Plant Harllee Branch Pavilion for safety briefing and area assignments, according to Georgia Power Compliance Specialist Regina Linch.

Optimist and Goat Island get particular attention in addition to general shore pickup. These spots accumulate trash after the summer run.

The cleanup falls into Georgia Power’s environmental stewardship initiatives. Plant Branch began the activities in 2004.

Linch said 2006 yielded the highest volunteer turnout at 162.

“Early on when we started doing this we would get in excess of 30 tons of debris,” Linch said. “We've done this for several years, and we don't have as much going on. Last year, we only collected 3.14 tons.”

Being a citizen wherever they serve is a Georgia Power motto these cleanup days make reality.

“Being environmental stewards is just a part of what we do everyday,” Linch said. “It's improving our community.”

Community volunteers are welcome. Be at the Plant Branch pavilion by 7:30 a.m.

All participants receive a free T-shirt and lunch.

Call 706-484-7500 with any questions or to register for the clean up.
