Hobby Lobby’s grand opening set

MILLEDGEVILLE — Hobby Lobby Stores, a privately held national retail chain of arts and crafts stores, opens its Milledgeville location with a ribbon cutting ceremony and official grand opening celebration at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14. The Milledgeville store is Hobby Lobby’s 26th location in Georgia.

The local store’s grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony is open to the public. Local dignitaries, ambassadors from the Milledgeville-Baldwin County Chamber of Commerce and other business leaders will be on hand to help with the celebration.

“Customers new to Hobby Lobby will find that we offer the widest variety of crafting supplies and home decor merchandise in one location, with new merchandise arriving all the time,” said John Schumacher, assistant vice president of advertising. “The constant elements throughout Hobby Lobby’s growth have always been our loyal customers, our outstanding employees and our pledge to provide exceptional selection, value and service.”

Val Shipp is the store manager of the 57,000 square-foot retail facility located off North Columbia Street in the Heritage Walk Shopping Center, formerly occupied by Kroger. Out of 1,500 job applicants, 70 full-time and part-time positions have been filled.

Hobby Lobby Stores Inc., headquartered in Oklahoma City, Okla., started as an outgrowth of Greco Products, a miniature picture frames company founded in a garage by David Green in 1970. Today, Hobby Lobby has nearly 600 stores across the nation that average 55,000 square feet in size. This major Oklahoma City-based private corporation offers more than 65,000 crafting and home decor products in its stores. Departments include floral, fabric, needle art, custom framing, baskets, home accents, wearable art, arts and crafts, jewelry and scrapbooking and paper crafting supplies.

Store hours for the Milledgeville location are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and closed Sunday.
