Police seek suspect in credit card case

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Milledgeville Police Department is investigating financial transaction card fraud that has taken place in several places throughout the city.

According to a statement from Maj. Reginald Hill with MPD, the case was turned over to Detective Deidre Byrd after a victim noticed her wallet was missing on Friday. She immediately notified the police department and her financial institution the following day. Bank officials advised the woman that her card had been used at multiple locations within the time frame her wallet was stolen.

The suspect in the case, later identified as 27-year-old Demarcus Deshon Harris, allegedly stole the wallet after being given a ride in the victim's car on Friday.

Harris used the card Friday night at approximately 9:44 p.m. at the Jet Food Store at 301 E. Hancock St. The final transaction was attempted at Dollar General around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to Hill, the manager at Dollar General intercepted the card and notified police. The suspect fled the area and disappeared prior to law enforcement arrival. The card was taken into evidence along with video footage of the suspect from inside the Dollar General.

Harris has not been apprehended by authorities but faces eight counts of financial transaction card fraud and one count of financial transaction Card Theft.
