Family event to aid Rick Paradise Memorial Fund

MILLEDGEVILLE — Rick Paradise was known for his outdoor nature and love for family and friends. After he was laid to rest Aug. 13, family and friends have been planning to invite the community to a family event in his memory.

“[Paradise] owned a trucking company for logging and was just an active member in the community. He was the most outgoing, friendly and loving person you will ever meet. He had a lot of friends, but for me, he was a good companion,” said Sheila Brett, Paradise's girlfriend. “He had a passion for archery, hunting and anything outdoors, and he was a hard worker.”

A Rick Paradise Memorial event will be held at 398 Old Monticello Road Sunday, at which the entire family can take part in 3D archery shoot while helping to cover the cost of his funeral arrangements.

“He was a big time archery shooter. He didn’t have life insurance, and he was only 35 years old,” Brett said of the life-long Baldwin County native. “We hope to raise enough to pay for the funeral.”

With the help of nearly 70 local sponsors and donations from area businesses and individuals, the event will feature food, a silent auction and raffle prizes.

“We will be raffling off a 12-gauge shotgun, a muzzleloader and a PSE bow. On top of the number of sponsors we have, multiple businesses donated items for give-aways, including massages, cuts and color, free car washes, gift certificates, hats, T-shirts and gift baskets with salon products or hunting supplies,” Brett said. “For the silent auction, we will have items from Costas, Oakley and framed pictures. We will also have a bake sale, a bounce house for kids and Z97 will be there.”

Registration for the fundraiser will kick off at 8 a.m. with the last shooter to sign up at 2 p.m. Children under the age of 8 are free and shooters, above the age of 8 cost $15, or $25 including a T-shirt. Plaques will be awarded to the first, second and third placed shooters within various classes.
