Oconee Artists Exhibition reception this week

MILLEDGEVILLE — An opening reception for the 31st annual Oconee Artists Exhibition will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Marlor Arts Center.

The Friends of Allied Arts and the Milledgeville Civic Woman’s Club, co-hosts for the reception, invite the public to attend.

The Oconee Artists Exhibition is an annual juried exhibition open to all adult artists in central Georgia. The six eligible categories are drawing, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture.

“This year twenty six artists entered a total of seventy three works,” Randy Cannon, director of Allied Arts said.

John Skelton, associate professor of art at Wesleyan College in Macon, served as judge for this year’s exhibit.

First place award went to Karen Snider for her oil portrait titled “Someone’s Son”; Patrick O’Byrne received second place for his graphite drawing titled “Henry Brooks: An Old Georgia Slave” and third place went to Kiersten C. Rocker for a mixed media entry titled “And the Beetle made them all Crazy.”

Five entries received Honorable Mentions.

The Oconee Artists Exhibition is sponsored annually by Milledgeville Allied Arts. The exhibition will be on display at the Marlor Arts Center through Friday, May 30. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is no admission fee charged to visit the gallery. For more information call 478-452-3950 or visit
