Davis House exhibit highlights African-American educators

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Sallie Ellis Davis House is currently showcasing influential, local African-American educators in, “Prominent Black Educators” throughout the month of April.

“This exhibit celebrates 12 innovative educators in the African-American community who struggled their whole lives to provide comprehensive and inspiring education to all students,” said Mansion Curator Molly Randolph. “This is the same struggle that Sallie Ellis Davis was engaged in throughout her life. These educators follow in her footsteps and show that with hard work and determination one really can make the world a better place.”

The exhibit features painted portraits of various local educators. The portraits were provided by Allied Arts, which originated from a calendar produced in the early ‘90s. Each portrait is accompanied with a biography of the educator. The exhibit will be ongoing until April 30.

Tickets for adults are $3 and $2 for seniors. All university faculty, staff and students are free.

For more information or to make an appointment call the Old Governor’s Mansion at 478-445-4545.
