First Friday cheer-off champions

August First Friday night crowds gathered in the Post Office parking lot to support their favorite cheerleading squad at the ‘Back to School Community Pep Rally.’

The Baldwin County school board was also in attendance to meet and greet with members of the community. The Baldwin Marching Pride opened the night up with a few chants led by new Band Director Ryan Murrell to get the crowd ready for the cheerleaders.

John Milledge Academy, Georgia Military College Prep School and Baldwin High School participated in the cheer-off. The three squads went back and forth for several rounds, and the winner was determined by loudest crowd applause. It was a close call between all the schools, but Baldwin High School was able to take home the win with a First Friday megaphone.

‘Congrats to the Baldwin Braves cheerleaders and a huge thank you to all of the squads and their fans,’ Milledgeville Main Street Director Carlee Schulte said. ‘The evening was very exciting, and the First Friday Committee plans to make this an annual event to kick off each school year.’
