MILLEDGEVILLE — Live entertainment and market incentives were a couple of features the Milledgeville Marketplace Farmers’ Market Committee wanted to provide during the 2013 farmers market season.

The committee had planned to have at least one activity each month for market-goers and vendors to enjoy while at the Tuesday market.

The market opened April 2 with 10 vendors and more than 400 people visiting the market. Live entertainment was provided by the Blue Grass Strangers to kick things off for the grand opening. Since opening day, the market has also featured the band Analog Reunion.

Dave and Joey, a First Friday favorite will be perform at the market next week. The duo will begin performing at 4 p.m. and stay until 7 p.m.

The farmers market’s new incentive program has been a hit with the vendors and market-goers alike. Customers at the market can get a punch card and receive a punch for every vendor they purchase from and once they have filled up their cards they receive $1 in Market Bucks to spend at any of the vendors and are entered into a drawing to win $25 in Market Bucks. The drawings are held on the first Tuesday of each month. Winners do not have to be present to win.

The April Market Bucks winner was Bob Lewis. Lewis is a regular at the farmers market.

The Milledgeville Marketplace Farmers Market is open from 4 to 7 p.m. every Tuesday through October featuring locally grown food, produce and handmade products.
