HAHSAL yard sale helps rescue neglected animals

MILLEDGEVILLE —

Have A Heart, Save A Life (HAHSAL) is hosting a yard and bake sale to help support the costly care of neglected canines and cats.

From 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, HAHSAL volunteers will be on site at Complete Cash located at 1801 N. Columbia St. showcasing animals and welcoming patrons to the sale.

“The yard sale will include children and adult clothes, baby items, toys, household items, decorations, books and numerous other items,” said Brenda Hill, a HAHSAL volunteer. “The donations have just been unreal.”

Area businesses also donated prizes to give away in a raffle drawing, including gift baskets, lamps, coat racks, picture prints and more. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the sale for $2 each or three tickets for $5. Individuals do not have to be present to win.

“We want to give a special thank you to everybody that helped make this a success,” Hill said, “and for being so supportive by giving their time and monetary donations.”

Refreshments and desserts will be served for a minimal fee.

“We would like to raise as much as possible, but we would love to get $2,000 if that’s possible. The sale will continue even in the rain,” Hill said. “All of the proceeds will go to Have A Heart, Save A Life to continue the organizations’ mission to save animals. We give all of the animals their shots, deworming and if they’re old enough, they get spayed or neutered before they are adopted.”

HAHSAL President Valerie Buckley has geared her efforts toward rescuing animals from being euthanized since she began the HAHSAL adoption project through the Baldwin County Animal Control office in January 2010. Community volunteers, Georgia College students, area schools and local businesses have donated funds and time to HAHSAL since its inception.

For those interested in providing a safe haven for neglected animals or want to adopt, a simple form and inspection is required with no adoption fee.
