Locals take part in Cities Week events

MILLEDGEVILLE — Milledgeville Mainstreet and the City of Milledgeville hosted several events and activities in honor of Georgia Cities Week, April 20 to 27.

Milledgeville hosted activities including a downtown cleanup day, a photo contest, and Facebook trivia.

The cleanup day in downtown Milledgeville was held Saturday. Bright and early Saturday morning the Main Street Office was full of volunteers including citizens in the community, Georgia Military College Cadets, members of the Young Professionals of Milledgeville, and one member of Cub Scout Pack 87.

The community was also invited to the Milledgeville-Baldwin Chamber of Commerce's Eggs & Issues breakfast on Wednesday to hear from Mayor Richard Bentley, who gave an update on the “State of the City.”

Maria H. Anders won the “Capture the Action” photo contest for her photo, “Georgia Military College at Dusk.” The photo will be feature in the lobby of City Hall.

Milledgeville Mainstreet Facebook Trivia sparked interest in the cyber world and yielded five winners to the week-long contest. Winners took home prizes ranging from Milledgeville mugs to T-shirts to downtown gift certificates.

Cities across Georgia celebrated Georgia Cities Week, sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA), to showcase the many services provided. Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, non-profit organization that offers legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and consulting services to its 510 member cities.
