Georgia College among 2014 ‘Best Regional Universities’

MILLEDGEVILLE — U.S. News & World Report continues to rank Georgia College as a best public university in the South.

Georgia College was designated 10th among the top public regional universities and was Georgia’s only university to be ranked in that category.

“Georgia College continues to garner recognition for its programs both on the regional and national level,” said President Dr. Steve Dorman. “Our classifications by U.S. News show the quality of our students, the dedication of our faculty and staff and that our peers can see the great opportunities our university provides.”

The 2014 “Best Colleges” guidebook also shows Georgia College moved up one place on the list of best regional universities in the South climbing to 29th.

The 621 universities in this category are not ranked nationally, but rather against their peer group in one of four geographic regions —North, South, Midwest and West — because, in general, they tend to draw students most heavily from surrounding states.

The “Best Colleges” guidebook is made up of a wide variety of data on assessments by peers and counselors, retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate performance and the alumni giving rate.

U.S. News & World Report is a multi-platform distributor of news and information, which also publishes annual print and e-book versions of its authoritative rankings of best colleges, best graduate schools and best hospitals.

Georgia College has also received several other national honors in the past three months.

The Colleges of Distinction website recognized Georgia College as a public college of distinction — one of only two in Georgia named to the list.

The Princeton Review also acknowledged Georgia College as a “Best in the Southeast” institution for the seventh consecutive year.
