New eatery to serve burgers, shakes

MILLEDGEVILLE — Construction to a new fast food, privately-owned restaurant chain is progressing quickly to serve up its famous grilled hamburgers, barbecue and variety of milkshakes by mid-December.

Located off North Columbia Street next to Tidal Wave Auto Spa, foundation work to the soon-to-be 2,800 square foot Cook Out restaurant is complete and framing of the building is currently going up.

“The restaurant will have dual drive-thrus with an area to sit inside,” said Michael Hussey, superintendent of the project through Venture Construction of Norcross. “In about a week, we will put the storefront in. We will start putting real stones on the outside and work on the parking lot. The sign will be installed toward the end.”

The North Carolina-based eatery has expanded throughout the state to having more than 120 locations across Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee.

“They have stores in Statesboro, Athens and Augusta,” Hussey said Tuesday afternoon. “The Statesboro location was store number 120. The owners have a goal to open 300 locations.”

Cook Out specializes in grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, North Carolina barbecue and milkshakes with a multitude of flavors.

“Cook Out is famous for their shakes,” Hussey said. “It’s an inexpensive but good restaurant. A family of four can eat under $20.”

Signs regarding employment will be posted outside the restaurant a few weeks prior to opening.
