MILLEDGEVILLE — The Downtown Development Authority program geared toward supporting small local businesses and entrepreneurs is seeking applicants.
BOOST is the Downtown Development Authority's latest program intended to support small local business and entrepreneurs with funding opportunities. BOOST offers businesses these grants towards various departments such as inventory, professional services, equipment, marketing/advertising etc. BOOST now has more than 30 “BOOSTERS” that donate $200 to the program per year.
Every quarter, the investment group comes together to review, discuss and vote on the most deserving candidates as well as the amount given for each grant. The grant amounts will start at a minimum of $100 and as much as $1,000.
The first round of grant recipients included Blossoms Florists, HairBar and Amici's Café. The businesses each received a $1,000 grant.
Main Street/DDA Director Carlee Schulte said the program is gaining supporters and numbers are expected to double this quarter.
“I think it's going to pick up momentum, and people are really going to be interested in it, as far as applying and being involved,” said DDA Director, Carlee Schulte.
The new quarter applications are due by Oct. 25 and the winners will be announced no later than Nov. 18.
Business owners are only eligible for the grant once a year. BOOST checks are made out to the vendor or supplier guaranteeing the money pays for the anticipated purchase.
