Raffle tickets will also be sold during the event for a chance to win a basket with downtown merchant $20 gift certificates, Deep Roots T-shirts, First Friday shopping bag, a Taste of Milledgeville Heritage Cookbook, a Deep Roots barbecue apron and a First Friday T-shirt. Proceeds will go to the Empty Stocking Fund. Raffle tickets will be $1 per ticket or $5 for six tickets.
Main Street Milledgeville Director Carlee Schulte is excited to embrace the holiday season with the spirit of giving thanks.
“The theme is ‘Give Thanks Downtown’ so the First Friday Committee and Young Professionals of Milledgeville thought it would be appropriate to host a canned food drive to help benefit the Empty Stocking Fund,” Schulte said.
All proceeds will be donated to the Empty Stocking Fund, a charity organization run by Randy New of Bayne’s Army Store in downtown Milledgeville.
“Around the holidays, I think it is important for us to remember to give back to those people in our community that are less fortunate and show them that their community cares about them,” Gamma Sigma Sigma, a community service group at Georgia College, President Alex Dixon said. “This event is a great way to have fun and partake in community service.”
The Scott Little Band will play country and southern rock music that will be fun for the whole family to enjoy.
Digital Bridges is hosting the GC Miracle group. In support of the Children’s Miracle Network, there will be an art opening featuring art of young children. Beginning at 5 p.m., all items will be auctioned off.
Talented folk artist, Dave Williams, will be in front of the Baldwin Lofts featuring his natural wood carvings.
There will also be an activity corner for kids hosted by Oconee Regional Medical Center and downtown merchants will be staying open late for shopping.
Hands On Milledgeville, a volunteer organization that focuses on volunteering and leadership in the Baldwin county community, will be hosting an awards ceremony from 7 to 7:30 p.m. in the post office parking lot during the bands intermission.
“I think that the awards ceremony is a wonderful opportunity to recognize the volunteers in the Milledgeville community and all of the hard work that they put into making our community a better place,” said Georgia College student Ashley Clifton.
Magnolia State Bank and St. Stephens Episcopal Church have teamed up to host a Bingo night to benefit Georgia Cancer Support. The event will be held in Parrish Hall from 6 to 8 p.m. This is a family event with prizes, pizza, goodies and soft drinks for sale. For more information, call Cheryl Crumbley at (478) 453-2265.
