MILLEDGEVILLE — The first emergency call was placed at 6:28 p.m. Tuesday in what turned out to be a six-car accident on North Columbia Street near the lake.
Four other cars struck a vehicle involved in the initial crash while it sat in the left northbound lane of U.S. Highway 441 North.
Sgt. MacKay Bloodworth of Milledgeville’s Georgia State Patrol Post 33 said a couple from Baldwin County driving a Chevrolet S-10 attempted a left turn exiting the Riverside Plaza near Lake Sinclair heading south on North Columbia.
A Putnam County female was heading north in the right hand lane.
“As the S-10 pulled out and attempted to make a left turn, they hit in the right northbound lane,” Bloodworth said. “As a result of that crash, the vehicle traveling north came to rest in the lefthand lane of North Columbia Street. That resulted in a five-car crash due to the vehicle being stopped in the roadway.”
The trooper said the rainy conditions contributed to the situation.
“That’s a high traffic area with the holidays right in front of us,” the trooper said. “Traffic was heavy. All those factors combined resulted in the significant number of vehicles involved.”
There were multiple air bag deployments, but luckily no life threatening injuries from the traffic incident.
