Sorority promotes importance of higher education

MILLEDGEVILLE —

Members of the Milledgeville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta read to kindergarten students at Blandy Hills Elementary School Thursday as part of the sorority’s annual May Week celebration.

The national initiative designates one week to emphasize the importance of higher education.

Each of the 46 students received a reading workbook to complete over summer break and help prepare them for the first grade.

The sorority was founded in 1913 on the campus of Howard University. The Milledgeville chapter was chartered in 1994 and services Baldwin, Hancock and Putnam counties.
