BOE set to adopt FY15 final budget

MILLEDGEVILLE — The Baldwin County Board of Education is slated to adopt its Fiscal Year 2015 budget during the next regularly scheduled board meeting in June.

The school board adopted a $49.5 million tentative budget at a board meeting held last month.

The tentative budget general fund includes a projected fund equity of $9.4 million. The tentative budget also includes expenditures of $26.3 million designated for school instruction; $996,592 for pupil services, $3.3 million for maintenance and operation, $2.6 million for school administration and nearly $3 million for student transportation.

The Fiscal Year 2014 final budget included $39.3 million in expenditures by comparison to the upcoming fiscal year’s $49.5 million in the tentative budget. The FY2014 final budget included $26 million for instruction, $800,000 for improvement to instructional services, $3 million for maintenance and operation, $3 million for school administration and $3 million for student transportation.

Approval of the Fiscal Year 2014 came without unanimous approval, however. Board member Lyn Chander of District 3 voted against last year’s final budget because of its $112,000 shortfall. The tentative budget recently approved by the board is balanced and does not have a shortfall.

The next school board meeting is slated for Tuesday, June 10 at 5:30 p.m. The board is expected to vote on the final FY2015 budget at that time. The board office is located at 110 North ABC St.
