First Friday brings the beach to Milledgeville

MILLEDGEVILLE — The First Friday Beach Bash is back, filled with fun, entertainment, and enough sand for everyone to enjoy.

“There will be more than 60 tons of sand dropped in the parking lot next to the post office to give the illusion of a quaint beach getaway,” said Milledgeville Main Street Director Carlee Schulte of Friday’s event, which kicks off at 6 p.m.

Accompanying the tons of sand will be a great lineup of activities to help everyone forget the heat.

The true beach experience is not complete without a mix of great music.

“There will be beach tunes to enjoy while the kids play, as well as live music from the Fall Line Ramblers. Also, our favorite DJ, Walter Reynolds, along with Z97 F.M., will have a collection of tunes that are sure to put everyone in the mood for summer,” Schulte said. “Later in the night, down near Digital Bridges, Randy Newton and The 120/80 Vocal Band will be performing as well.”

L.O.V.E for Haiti will have snow cones for sale, and the Oconee Regional Medical Center will have a go fish game and silly photo opportunities for the whole family.  Later that evening the Mary Vinson Memorial Library will sponsor a showing of the movie “Finding Nemo.” The library will also sponsor a used book sale.

Some of the community’s favorite four-legged friends will be out to enjoy the beach atmosphere as well.

“The Animal Rescue Foundation would love for you to stop by their table to be located in front of The Lemon Tree (on Wayne Street) to play with and/or adopt their furry friends,” said Schulte.

Also during First Friday will be the grand opening of the Whimsy Willow. The Whimsy Willow opened in May and has a wide variety of exclusive gifts by local Georgia artist along with items like jewelry, scarves, bows, candles and more.

The beach time fun begins at 6 p.m. and will last to 9 p.m.
