Local babies share unforgettable day with royal heir

MILLEDGEVILLE — Monday proved historic as the birth of a baby boy weighing 8 pounds and 6 ounces was celebrated around the globe.

The healthy bundle of joy seen by the world is the son of Prince William and his wife, Kate, Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge.

The couple's Kensington Palace office said Kate gave birth to the baby boy at 4:24 p.m. Monday.

Locally two sets of beaming parents welcomed their own little bundles into the world as cherished and as celebrated to their families as the third in line to the British throne.

Milledgeville parents Carolyn Denham and Cedric Parham, along with Randy and Wendy Baldwin had a lot to celebrate Monday as well.

When the two sets of parents entered Oconee Regional Medical Center, they never would have guessed that their newborn children would have something in common with royalty.

Although the royal couple has delayed naming their little prince, the two local baby girls will not have to endure the wait. On Monday, Carolyn Denham gave birth to Summer Levette Denham, weighing 7 pounds and 3.4 ounces, and Wendy Baldwin gave birth to Kristin Shay Baldwin, weighing 6 pounds and 14 ounces.

Thousands of miles away the royal couple, both 31, looked happy and relaxed as they waved at the crowds of journalists and onlookers gathered outside London's St. Mary's Hospital on Tuesday, posing for photographs and joking with reporters.

"It's very emotional. It's such a special time. I think any parent will know what this feeling feels like," the Duchess of Cambridge told journalists.

Kate then gave the baby to her husband, who, cradling their child, said: "He's got her looks, thankfully. He's got a good pair of lungs on him, that's for sure."

William added: "He's a big boy. He's quite heavy," and laughed when a reporter asked him about the baby's hair.
