Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has signed into law a statute creating the Central State Hospital Local Redevelopment Authority.
Deal signed HB 815 into law Wednesday at a ceremonial signing attended by stakeholders in a plan to redevelop the expansive hospital campus at his office at the state Capitol in Atlanta.
Milledgeville Mayor Richard Bentley, council member Jeanette Walden, City Manager Barry Jarrett and City Planner Mike Couch were joined by state Sen. Johnny Grant (R-Milledgeville) and Deal for the signing of the bill.
The bill allows a legal vehicle to move forward a plan that would see the expansive campus of the once populous Central State Hospital renovated for a public private expansion of rural health care. The authority would seek state, federal and private funding for the renovations of the historic buildings on campus.
