Hibachi Express to serve fast Asian foods

MILLEDGEVILLE — Husband and wife Chun and Sissy Fei Chow moved from state to state to find the perfect opportunity to introduce a community like Milledgeville to fast Asian-inspired foods at affordable prices.

Slated to open in the beginning of April, the duo is currently cleaning and remodeling the former Long John Silver’s and A&W All American Food restaurant building next to Pizza Hut on North Columbia Street to transform it into Terry Ho’s Hibachi Express.

“We’re from Philadelphia, but we’ve been moving from state to state. We went from Philadelphia to Florida, Florida to Minnesota, and from Minnesota to now here. We’ve been on and off in the restaurant business. We were managing a business called Tokyo Sushi & Hibachi,” Sissy said. “There are a lot of fast food restaurants and dine-in restaurants with similar type foods in Milledgeville, but we thought, ‘why don’t we give people an opportunity to buy the same kind of food for less?’”

The Chows leased the 2,500 square foot space in early January and saw it as the perfect fit for providing a range of on-the-go meals made with using Chun’s skills as a sushi chef.

“We have to get three or four new computers in and have to purchase a big grill so a mini-chef can cook,” Sissy said. “We are going to paint and decorate it to make it have more of a Japanese style, and we have to fix some of the furniture.”

The local Hibachi Express will serve up Asian-inspired foods, including egg rolls, salads, wraps, hibachi meats and noodles, ranging in price from $5 to $8.

“Hibachi food is cooked on a grill. We will have meats like beef, steak, chicken and some seafood like shrimp. Everything comes with fried rice, grilled vegetables and Terry Ho’s famous yum yum sauce,” Sissy said. “The restaurant is between fast food and dine-in. The food is always going to be hot. We will not have sushi in the beginning; we will have to see how much we can handle first.”
