MILLEDGEVILLE — Georgia College will recognize nearly 1,400 undergraduate and graduate students during the spring commencement ceremonies this weekend.
The nearly 400 graduate students will receive their degrees at 7 p.m. Friday on the Front Lawn of Main Campus.
The processional begins at 6:45 p.m. University System of Georgia Chancellor Hank M. Huckaby will be the keynote speaker.
Huckaby was selected in May 2011 by the Board of Regents to become the University System of Georgia’s 12th chancellor. He oversees 31 public colleges and universities with a $6.5 billion annual budget and 43,000 faculty and staff fulfilling the teaching, research and public service mission to 314,000 students.
Prior to becoming Chancellor, Huckaby was a teacher and administrator in the University System and has taught at private colleges and universities. He also served in the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget, first as a senior policy coordinator and later as its director, as well as commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, and as the executive director of the Georgia Residential Finance Authority.
Huckaby has represented Georgia House District 113 as a Republican.
Saturday at 9 a.m. more than 1,000 undergraduates will receive their degrees from Georgia College on the Front Lawn of Main Campus.
The processional begins at 8:45 a.m.
The undergraduate Georgia College Class of 2013 includes 21 international students and 18 out of state students.
